Penny Lucas

Councillor Penny Lucas grew up and raised her family in Kenora but moved to Thunder Bay in 2008 for work. When she started looking for a place to retire in 2011, she came to explore and fell in love with Ignace, eventually choosing it as her home town.

Penny possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience in a range of fields such as bookkeeping, entrepreneurial development, interior decorating and design, human relations, communications, business law and administration just to name a few. “There has never been anything that I have learned or that I have been involved in that hasn’t helped me somewhere, somehow, sometime further on down the road”, says Penny, “whether it be a formal course or something learned by doing.”

Penny has always been an active member of her community, volunteering, participating in research and serving on a number of boards and committees:

Current:

• Mary Berglund Community Health Centre
• Ignace Silver Tops Seniors Centre
• Lions Club

Past:

• Early Years Steering Committee
• Kenora Area Taxpayers Coalition
• District of Kenora Homes for the Aged
• Kenora District Services Board
• Northwest Community Care Access Centre
• Kenora Classic Car Club
• Wilderness Riders Snowmobile Club

Penny believes that her greatest achievement has been raising her two children and being blessed with five wonderful grandchildren. “I give gratitude everyday for the life I am fortunate enough to live”.

Penny currently serves on the following Boards and Committees:

• Finance Committee
• Kenora District Services Board (KDSB)
• Ignace Community Nuclear Liaison Committee (ICNLC)
