About Local Government Week
The Township of Ignace joins other municipalities across Ontario in celebrating Local Government Week from October 20 to 26, 2019.
Local Government Week is a campaign intended to highlight the key role that Ontario municipal governments play in helping to define the character, priorities, amenities and physical make-up of Ontario's diverse communities.
The objective of the campaign is to help students and residents gain an understanding of municipal government and its impact on everyday lives. It is also intended to create more engaged citizenship and stewardship of our local communities.
The campaign is a partnership between the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). The Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers (AMCTO) of Ontario has developed and shared a presentation that speaks to the many roles and functions of local governments.
Council for the Day Contest
The Township is pleased to launch a 'Council for the Day' Contest, open to all students in Ignace. Five (5) students will be chosen based on their ideas for making Ignace an even better place to live. One of the students will be named Mayor of Ignace for the day and the other four (4) students will serve as Councillors.
All five (5) students:
• Will attend a mock council meeting (coached by their respective elected officials of Council)
• Enjoy lunch with Mayor Cunningham
• Tour different township facilities
• Participate in a video interview that will be highlighted on the Township website
Students are asked to submit letters that share their ideas for making Ignace an even better place to live to the Municipal Office by November 15, 2019.
