MAJOR GAS LINE LEAK ON PINE ST, Ignace On

At approximately 6:00 pm this evening, a third party contractor working to install fibre optics in the community of Ignace, accidentally severed a gas line on Pine Street.

At this time, Interim Mayor Baigrie and Council have urged everyone in the area to be aware of this situation and not go near the area. The safety and health of our residents is of the highest priority, and we are urging anyone in the area to please be careful and steer away from the area at this time.

Emergency response for Enbridge Gas, the Ontario Provincial Police have been contacted and are on their way to the scene and our own Volunteer Fire Department have all been contacted and will be on the scene.

Three area residents have been evacuated as a precaution from the area.

The Township is also making the Recreational Complex available should there be a requirement this evening and tomorrow.

At this time, we do not have all of the details of the accident, how and why this happened but we do know that the third party contractor is also on site to assist in managing this potentially dangerous situation.
