IGNACE STRONGLY SUPPORTS LOCATION OF NEW CENTRE OF EXPERTISE WITHIN COMMUNITY BOUNDARIES
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) announces location of the new Ignace Centre of Expertise
DECEMBER 3, 2025, Ignace, ON – Mayor, Council and senior staff were delighted to learn and fully support today’s decision and announcement by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) regarding the location of the NEW Centre of Expertise for Ignace.
The facility will be located on an approximately 67-acre piece of land directly west of the current Ignace municipal office on Highway 17. The facility will be a multimillion-dollar investment and an important landmark and international destination in northwestern Ontario. It will serve as a hub for research and development, community engagement and knowledge sharing.
The roughly 65,000 square foot facility will include workspace and technical areas for NWMO staff, multi-purpose gathering spaces, and an interactive visitor’s centre where the public can learn more about nuclear waste management.
