FedNor funding announced for Ignace master plan

Tuesday, 20 August 2019

FedNor has committed nearly $100,000 to the Township of Ignace to develop an investment and capacity-building master plan.

Kenora MP Bob Nault on behalf of Navdeep Bains, the minister of innovation, science and economic development and the minister responsible for FedNor, announced $94,500 in funding for the plan Friday, Aug. 16.

“I would like to thank the Government of Canada for recognizing the unique needs of our community by investing to strengthen the social and economic outlook of the Township of Ignace,” Ignace Mayor Donald Cunningham said in a news release. “Once complete, the master plan will help in ensuring our community continues to be a great place to live, work, play and do business.”

The master plan will outline a vision and long-term economic strategy for the community. FedNor funding will support the three key components of the master plan, which include developing and implementing economic development and tourism strategies, as well as completing a community capacity study.

“Our Government is empowering Northern Ontario communities to take charge of their economic futures by investing in local priorities that support jobs, growth and a strong economy,” Nault said in a news release. “By investing in the Township of Ignace, we are helping to maximize the community’s economic and tourism potential, while supporting long-term growth and prosperity throughout the area.”
